REGIONS AND CITIES FOR CLIMATE AND ENERGY TRANSITION 2017: Republic of Srpska active in Regional Coo

As every year, the Republic of Srpska actively participated in the 15th edition of the European Week of Region Cities 2017 organized by the Committee of the Regions and the European Commission's Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) during the period October 9/12 in Brussels.

Within the framework of the main event, the conference "REGIONS AND CITIES FOR CLIMATE AND ENERGY TRANSITION 2017" was held on October 11 organized by "Abruzzo Region partnership", where the Republic of Srpska took the role as a partner and contributor among many other regions. The aim of the event was to discuss current challenges and projects under the topic of climate and energy transition.

During the event, the Republic of Srpska was represented by Head of the Republic of Srpska Representation in Brussels Mr. Mario Đuragić who spoke about the Republic of Srpska strategy in the energy and climate sector. Mr. Đuragić referred to the missions, goals and visions of the Republic of Srpska underlining the importance of providing a long-term support for the energy and climate system.

Additionally, Mr. Đuragić indicated the role of the Republic of Srpska in international agreements on environmental protection such as the presence in "Green Climate Fund" together with "Energy Efficiency Projects" which will, among other things, contribute to the transition from the use of fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, creation of new jobs, long-term reduction of air pollution and protection of the health of citizens.

In addition to our Head of Representation in Brussels, senior officials from the European Union, other representatives of European institutions, international organizations, diplomats and representatives of regions and cities took the role as the participants in this event.
