Welcome to the Regional Representation of Republic of Srpska in Brussels.
Republic of Srpska is a region in Bosnia and Herzegovina and is one of the two semi-autonomous entities that make up the country. It covers 49% of the country’s territory and has approximately 1.35 million inhabitants. Republic of Srpska is situated in the southeast Europe and is at the crossroads between the major East-West communications routes (between Western Europe and East Europe and Turkey) and the North-South routes (between continental Europe and the Mediterranean).
The European Union fosters the concept of the multi-level governance and the regions of Europe play an important role. We reckognised this importance and since 2008 Republic of Srpska is present in Brussels. In November 2007, Republic of Srpska became a member of Assembly of European Regions – an organization that brings together 260 regions from Europe and 13 inter-regional organizations. Our main objective is to improve relations with other European regions and to be closer to the European Union.
The key aspect of our work in this international setting is an exchange of ideas and experience. We believe that the regions can help each other by sharing “best practices” in all the important policies, such are infrastructure, environmental and climate protection, administrative modernization, fighting unemployment, etc.
Along with cooperation on the political and administrative level, Republic of Srpska wants to bring forward the benefits to the general population. By exchanging the contacts between the civil society groups, we create the opportunities for our people. These networks are particulary important in the areas of cultural, educational and sport cooperation.
